Southwest launched a targeted promotion to A-List customers this week, offering a 60% bonus on flights through 7/14/2025 instead of the usual 25% that comes with A-List status.
While bonus points are always good, and you should take 30 seconds to register if targeted, this one is not very exciting for 2 big reasons:
- Flights already booked do not qualify. You must register for the promotion, then book the flight in order to get the 60% bonus. With maybe one exception, I already have all of my travel booked through this time window. I suppose if you have a flight booked and the price has not gone up, you could cancel the flight and then rebook it after registering.
- Even with this bonus, the earning on Wanna Get Away fares is still 57% lower than it would have been just a few months ago. Previously, an A-List customer buying a Wanna Get Away ticket would earn 6 points per dollar with a 25% bonus (7.5 points per dollar). Now that the base earning has been slashed to 2 points per dollar, this bonus only brings the earning up to 3.2 points per dollar, a 57% decrease.

TL;DR: Southwest has launched a new promotion, offering some A-List customers a 60% earning bonus on flights booked after registration and flown through July 14th. While better than nothing, this offer doesn’t do much to take the sting out of the recent devaluations.
With all the promotions, it’s clear they are losing customers. They seem desperate lately.
Definitely feels like a bit of desperation. If they truly wanted to reward existing customers, they should offer this on existing bookings.
