Success! Combining Points From Three People for a Hyatt Stay

I was recently helping my wife and 3 friends book travel for a spring girls trip long weekend. They needed 2 rooms and within the group we had a range of Hyatt points, Chase points, and Hyatt free night certificates. The hotel they are staying at is a category 4 property and was available for 15,000 points per night or with the free night certs. I was able to get 2 of the friends on a call with Hyatt and with the help of a great phone agent, Cassandra, we quickly and easily made what felt like a very complex booking.

How we booked the two rooms

For the 2 rooms and 3 nights we needed a total of 6 free nights. For the first room we used:

  • 2 free night certs from my account
  • 1 free night cert from friend #1’s account gifted to me

For the 2nd room we used:

  • 15,000 points from friend #1, transferred in real time on the call from her Chase Ultimate Rewards account to Hyatt
  • 30,000 points from friend #2’s Hyatt account

This whole process took only about 10 minutes and was very easy once we explained what we were trying to accomplish. Cassandra got it done efficiently and had a great attitude in helping us with a complex, atypical booking. Having a helpful phone agent can really go a long way in these types of situations. I can usually tell pretty quickly if someone is going to be helpful or not and in the latter case, I will often end the call and try again with a different agent or HUCA (hang up, call again) as they say.

TL;DR: Complex Hyatt award bookings are possible when combining points from multiple accounts and sharing award certificates. Having a helpful phone agent can make the process quick and easy.
