Southwest has released another offer this week to earn a short-term Companion Pass for use this fall. This comes on the heels of a recent offer for business travel specifically. This offer is easier to achieve, with only 1 round trip or two one-ways required, but you have to act fast. It looks like this is a targeted offer, but both my wife and I had this on our accounts.
The Deal
- Register for the promotion. Previous bookings won’t count
- Book a round trip or 2 one-ways by this Thursday, 2/5.
- Complete the travel by 3/31
- Earn a promotional Companion Pass good from 8/10 to 10/7 of this year
Analysis
If you have travel planned in this window, this is an easy offer to take advantage of. Note, if you have existing bookings for February or March, and the price has not gone up, you could register, then cancel and rebook to make them eligible.
Longer term, these continued offers for a promotional Companion Pass are a good sign. Many were worried that Companion Pass is next on the chopping block after Southwest nerfed many other customer-friendly features over the last 6 months. In their desire to be just like everyone else, Companion Pass remains the one thing that truly differentiates Southwest. That’s why I say these offers are a good sign. With so many flyers becoming “free agents” these days, seeing Southwest pushing that differentiation as part of their value proposition makes it less likely to go away completely.
