Review: Hyatt Centric French Quarter, New Orleans

Hyatt Centric French Quarter

In August, my wife and I spent a long weekend in New Orleans and stayed at the Hyatt Centric French Quarter. Cash prices can swing pretty wildly at this property, and despite the relatively low cash price during our visit, we booked with 15k points per night.

One benefit with Hyatt award stays is waived resort fees, which saved us some extra money here. In terms of inclusions from that fee, we only used the free welcome drink at the lobby bar. WIth my Hyatt Explorist status we did get a larger than standard room as well as 2pm late checkout, which did come in handy on our departure day. As you can probably guess, it was quite hot and humid there in August so getting to take a quick shower before we headed out for a late lunch and then our whiskey tasting at the Sazerac House was appreciated.

Location

There are several Hyatt properties in New Orleans, but the Hyatt Centric is our go-to, mainly based on the location. What amazes me is that even with the very close proximity to Bourbon St (just a block away), it is always quiet enough at night to sleep peacefully. This was my 4th stay at this property and I have always slept well. Beyond easy access to the French Quarter activies and dining, it is also a block away from Canal Street so it is easy to hop on the trolley and get around the broader area. It is a bit of a hike, but we even walked back to the hotel from Frenchman Street after taking in some live music one night.

I’ve added quite a few photos below to tell the full story, but here are some of my pros and cons of this property.

Pros

  • As I mentioned, I do love the location
  • High ceilings and big windows make the rooms feel bright and airy
  • Comfortable bed
  • Peaceful courtyard
  • Well-appointed fitness room

Cons

  • Small pool (but relaxing pool area)
  • Small bathroom and shower
  • On-site breakfast would be underwhelming for a Globalist
  • Room was spacious compared to a standard room, but the extra space was not really functional – just kind of “there”

TL;DR: The Hyatt Centric New Orleans is a comfortable home base and a great location for exploring all the French Quarter has to offer. Despite the proximity to Bourbon Street, I’ve always been able to sleep well.
