New Southwest Promotions This Week: Double Points and Status Match Offers

Southwest planes in Phoenix

Southwest is out with two new promotions this week. These tend to be targeted and if you didn’t get an email offer, go to your My Account page on a desktop browser to see all of your available promotions at the bottom of the page.

The first offer was double Rapid Rewards points on flights which on the surface sounds great but overall will not be very useful for me. Only flights booked AFTER registering and flown by 11/19/2025 count. I already have 5 round trips booked during this flight. I suppose I could cancel and rebook if the fares had not gone up in price, but most of these were very good prices that I don’t expect will get better. What’s worse is that most are Basic fares which earn 2 points per dollar. That means even with a 2X multiplier through this promotion, it is still 33% less rewarding than the old Wanna Get Away fares that earned 6 points per dollar until earlier this year.

That said, for someone who has some business travel coming up and books higher fare classes, this could be valuable. At the high end of the spectrum, the highest Choice Extra fares, which earn 14X per dollar jumps to 28X with the promotion. Not considering any additional multipliers for A-List or A-List Preferred status, at a point value of 1.25 cents per point, that’s a 35% return on spend. That’s a great return, especially if someone else is paying for it. Everyone in my family was targeted for this promotion.

The other promotion is a status match to A-List. I am the only one in my family who received this offer and am also the only one who is already A-List which doesn’t make much sense. The rest of the offer doesn’t make a lot of sense either:

  • It doesn’t say which airline statuses they will match, it is case by case evaluation
  • There is no way to get matched to A-List Preferred, only A-List, or earn A-List Preferred through any activity during the 90 day window.
  • They promote the benefits such as preferred or extra-legroom seating (if available, 48 hours before takeoff) but those benefits are not taking effect until well past the 90-day window later in January 2026.

On the bright side, you only need to fly 3 roundtrip flights within 90 days of registration to keep the status for an additional 12 months, so it’s a pretty low bar. This offer is best for someone who has some trips coming up in the next few months, is not going to qualify for A-List anyway and does not carry a Southwest credit card. For those in this group, the free checked bag benefit alone is worth the few minutes to register.

TL;DR: There are 2 new Southwest promotions out this week. Check your email or My Account page to register if you are targeted for 2X points and/or an A-List status match offers.
