One of the drawbacks of flying Southwest is that they do not (yet!) operate their own airport lounges. However, there are many Priority Pass lounges that are accessible when flying Southwest. In this series I am highlighting which lounges you will be able to access while flying Southwest and what to expect from these lounges.
There are 3 lounges in the relatively new Terminal 4 in Cancun, which is used for all departing Southwest flights back to the US. Unfortunately, the two nicer Plaza Premium lounges are now only accessible with the Amex Platinum card. The third, however, is accessible with Priority Pass: The Lounge in partnership with Air Transat.
To access this lounge, once you clear security and pass through the duty-free shops, turn left and go to the end of the concourse and down the stairs across from gate 54. Given the relatively small size of this terminal, even if your departing gate is on the opposite end of the concourse, you are still a short walk away. On our visit last week, we were able to get in without a wait, but in the past, there has sometimes been a pretty long wait due to the small size of the lounge.
Lounge Amenities
This lounge has all the basic amenities: food, drinks, restrooms, and WiFi. If you have a long flight, I wouldn’t count on eating a full meal, but the options they had were an acceptable replacement for lunch before our 3-hour flight.
Food included both self-serve options (sandwiches, salads, fruit, cookies, and some other snacks). You could also scan a QR code on the table to order some hot food. We could not find a way to get the menu to display in English, but I tried both the chicken fajitas with tortilla chips and the chicken tacos. Both were solid and the chicken was juicy and well-seasoned.
There were also self-serve drinks for beer, soda and coffee. We were disappointed there were no water bottles available to take, but you could request them at the bar. The bar also had wine and a range of cocktails available. Nothing super high end (as you would expect), but decent for a Priority Pass lounge.
Lounge Seating
Seating options were surprisingly varied considering the small size of the lounge. One small area had some furniture for kids. Another was kept dark and had some relaxation chairs. Overall, the seating was comfortable but lacked for power outlets.
TL;DR: The Lounge in CUN Terminal 4 is small but got the job done before our return flight to the US. If you have the Amex Platinum definitely visit one of the two Plaza Premium instead, but if you have Priority Pass and want a quick bite to eat and a drink, or to grab a water bottle for the plane, it’s worth the short walk to visit this lounge.
